Background

McKesson Healthcare, for 2024, reported revenues of $309 billion and employed approximately 51,000 people. McKesson partnered with IBM to develop the McKesson Performance Advisor (MPA), a clinical-based, business predictive analytics/intelligence software solution. MPA aggregates multiple data sources to identify key trends, behaviors, performance metrics, and exceptions, ultimately improving business performance. McKesson hired StonyPoint to recover the as the 11-product amalgamation initiative as was significantly over budget and behind schedule.

Challenges

  • Complex Coordination: Managing a large team of 130 resources, including 90 from IBM, across 12 internal workstreams.
  • Data Integration: Aggregating and analyzing data from 162 internal and over 200 external sources to provide actionable insights.
  • Risk Management: Identifying and mitigating risks associated with the project.
  • Compliance: Ensuring the solution met regulatory requirements, including HIPAA.

Solution

Led implementing a comprehensive plan to address these challenges, including:

  • Program Management: Developed and managed the program strategy,, program status, and agenda establishing a clear artifact development and approval process. Coordinated with IBM and internal teams to ensure seamless execution.
  • Technology Integration & PoC: Utilized technologies IBM technology stack for executing  Proof of Concept (PoCs).
  • Module Development: Created application modules for Provider Performance, Network and Provider Contract Management, Pay for Performance (P4P), Quality Management, HEDIS Reporting, Disease Management, Care Management, Employer Management, UM Analysis, Predictive Modeling, Risk Management, Fraud and Abuse, and Claims Intelligence.
  • Training and Support: Managed team to deliver internal training, implementation services, support, QA/UAT, sample data, product documentation, and product training.

Tangible Outcomes

  • Successfully Launched MPA at the Annual User Conference: Recovered the initiative by carving the functionality in 2 Phases and launching the product with about 65% functionality with 3 Beta customers.
  • Enhanced Compliance: Ensured compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements, safeguarding sensitive health information.
  • Efficient Risk Management: Successfully identified and mitigated risks, ensuring the smooth execution of the project.
