Biogen, a leading biotechnology company, As of 2023, Biogen reported annual revenues of approximately $9.836 billion with about 7500 employees, aimed to enhance its Commercial IT data warehouses to improve data management, reporting capabilities, and overall operational efficiency to support the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region and the US business unit.
Challenges
- Complex Integration: Integrating two large and complex data warehouses while ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing operations.
- Data Management: Implementing historization, Slowly Changing Dimension (SCD) Type 2, and Master Data Management (MDM) enhancements.
- High-Risk Projects: Managing multiple high-risk projects concurrently to mitigate inter-program dependencies.
- Resource Management: Efficiently managing resources and budgets across multiple projects and vendors.
Solution
Led implementing a comprehensive plan to address these challenges, including:
- Integration and Enhancements: Leading the integration and architecture enhancements of the two Commercial IT data warehouses, delivering a third batch for APAC, historization and implementing Slowly Changing Dimensions (SCD) Type 2, and MDM enhancements.
- Managing a Program portfolio of 16 projects, including two other high-risk projects to mitigate risks and ensure successful delivery, working with five Technical Architects in the Informatica environment.
- Telephony Analytics: Leading the Telephony Analytics effort for data migration and business intelligence reporting for the US business unit.
- IT Strategy: Conceptualizing and leading IT strategy efforts, including Data Warehouse Automation Product Evaluation & Vendor Identification, Enterprise Release Management, and IT Resource Management Automation.
- Vendor Management: Managed strategic vendors such as Eliassen, Experis, Cognizant, and HCL.
